Do you have a dangerous staircase? Anti-slip strips prevent slipping!

A slippery staircase is very dangerous. In many old houses the stairs are small, steep and have narrow steps, causing many falls every year. In this article I discuss a number of anti-slip solutions for the stairs. To achieve good anti-slip on your stairs, there are a number of simple and easy adjustments to make to your stairs that do not have to cost a lot. This makes your stairs a lot safer, so that accidents and slips can be prevented.

Anti-Slip Strip - Adhesive Strips
A commonly used solution to create anti-slip on your stairs is to provide the steps with a self-adhesive anti-slip strip. These anti-slip strips are for sale in different versions, you have an adhesive tape version with a coarse-grained top layer, there is also a tape with a non-slip adhesive tape top layer, recently there is also a non-slip rubber tape with grooves, which has been specially developed for the stairs to give optimal anti-slip.

The strip feels pleasant on the feet, is made of durable material and is easy to clean. The strip is available in 10 different colours. The non-slip strips have a self-adhesive adhesive layer on the back so that you can easily apply them to the stairs, they are easy to cut or cut.

When you have cut the strips to the right length, first draw a pencil line on the steps along which you let the adhesive strip run. Make sure that the step has been thoroughly degreased with alcohol and that the paint has dried well for at least a week. If you don't do this, the glue on the strip can loosen the paint a bit, so that optimum adhesion will not be created. It is also important that the strip is well pressed with a roller. If you want more information about qualities and prices, read  anti-slip tape what to look out for  an extensive blog of mine where I discuss the most commonly used strips.

Anti-slip strip - router bit
Traditionally, a milling strip is used in the more luxurious stairs. The stair maker then mills a groove/slot in the stair treads with a milling machine. a plastic rubber strip is later pressed into this groove. The big advantage is that if the anti-slip strip is worn out, you can easily exchange the strip. If there is no groove in your stair treads, it is a bit more difficult to make the groove, for this you need a special edge cutter and you have to be a bit handy.

If you are not handy, it is better to look for a handyman or someone in your circle of acquaintances who can do this for you. If you don't have one and you don't want to spend too much money on it, the anti-slip adhesive strip is a much easier solution. Quickly glued for optimum safety.

Anti-slip stairs - Stair steps moons
Stair tread moons are also often used for good anti-slip of the stair treads. They are available in many designs, colours, materials and qualities. In addition to the fact that a stair tread moon provides good anti-slip, it also prevents you from walking bare on the stair tread and you create a nice contrast with the painted stair treads.

By using stair tread moons you get a completely different looking refurbished staircase in no time. You no longer have to worry about slipping on your stairs because these moons provide an optimal grip.

In addition to the traditional fabric moons, there are now also synthetic stair moons, both in opaque and transparent, translucent colours. These moons are ideal if you have had the stairs renovated and you think the stairs are still a bit too slippery, then these transparent moons are the solution, because they shine through and show the decor or the color of the step. Stair steps moons can easily be attached with glue or with the usually supplied adhesive strips or stickers.
