Non-slip stair tape is available in different qualities and prices.

Once you have completely renovated your stairs the result will be amazing. Your hard work for days of getting rid off the carpet, scraping of the glue that’s left on the treads, using sandpaper to make it look appropriate, all will be worth it! But probably you will find out that after freshly painting your stairs, the treads might be too slippery. Of course, a new painted stairs is way easier to clean and to maintain, but the safety concerned slipping on the treads is pretty low.

Non-slip strip to place inside the treads
Maybe you have almost fallen of the stairs already and you really want to solve this problem. An option would be the traditional non-slip strip, placed inside the tread. But imagine you just painted the stairs, then this method will ruin it and you have to paint it all over again.

Even if you want to do this, how will you? If you are experienced in any home renovation jobs you should be able to do it yourself. If not, you have to spend some money to ask a professional to do it for you. Which will cost you around €175,- to €200,-.

Non-slip halfmoon stair mats
You can also deside to get yourself some carpet halfmoon stair mats. These are very easy to stick onto your treads and will give you a secure stair situation again. But cleaning these things is not so easy. If you choose a cheaper brand, the edges will curl up pretty soon, which gives you a bigger chance to trip. The more expensive ones are from a better quality and will last longer, most of the times because they have an extra plastic profile underneath the carpet layer. If you consider to buy these, a set for a whole stairs will cost you about €160,- to €250,-.

Non-slip adhesive rubber stair strip
There are adhesive stair strips available that give a very good non-slippery sensation.

Most of the time it is delivered as a tape on a roll. You can cut your own sizes, perfect for your own stairs. If you get yourself a cheap brand, you will be able to buy a roll for around €15,-. For example the ones at IKEA, they have a sandpaper kind of structure. Your feet will probably hate it, since it doesn’t feel that comfortable. Also because the material is very thin, it doesn’t last for long and will wear out pretty easily. You often see this strip used in big buildings, but it is not very suitable for home stairs.

There is also a non-slip adhesive tape with a rubber top layer, available in different widths and in a black color. This product is way more sustainable then the sandpaper tape, but do consider that this tape is also very thin.

The best solution for your stairs, if you consider an adhesive tape, is to get a tape that is around 2mm thick. Because of the thickness it will not only stick better on to the treads, but it will curl up less easier than the thinner ones. The glue layer of these strips is of a very high quality, so you can be sure it will not move once you apply it. Also it is suitable for almost all surfaces. This strip is usually available per meter, which makes it easy to count how much you need and for an average stairs you will spend probably about €40,- to €50,-.
